Advises, empowers, and serves as a resource for the First in the Forest (first-generation students) community at Wake Forest University. This is a 1-year grant funded position, scheduled to begin July 1, 2023, and end June 30, 2024, with the possibility of renewal.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a dedicated advisor for the Pell-eligible students in the First in the Forest community; counsels students concerning course selection, extra-curricular pursuits, and involvement at Wake Forest.
- Guides students in navigating challenges and connecting them to appropriate on-campus resources.
- Provides group coaching to connect first-generation students with peers and check in on progress.
- Acts as co-advisor for First in Flight Club; oversees and advises on First in Flight's peer mentorship program for all first-generation students.
- Manages Peer Mentoring Program for first-generation students in collaboration with OPCD; may include leading of educational and developmental sessions for program participants.
- Coordinates programming for students designed to promote academic and personal success; foster community among first-generation students; and increase student involvement on-campus.
- Manages Fresh in the Forest Pre-Orientation program.
- Advises on-campus partners on tailoring their support for first-generation students; provides opportunities for students to engage intentionally with other offices on campus.
- Develops social media to build connections among and awareness of Wake Forest's first-generation community.
- May serve as a University representative and liaison to secondary schools and students and educate/update guidance professionals and prospective students concerning the University's support for first-generation students.
- Collects data and testimonials from students to better inform institutional support of first-generation community.
- Represents Wake Forest University at conferences and other engagements with external university and professional groups focused on first-generation students.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- BA/BS required; preference given to Wake Forest graduates.
- Knowledge of the additional challenges and stressors faced by first-generation students; interest in and dedication to raising awareness about these issues and supporting first-generation students.
- Knowledge of Wake Forest academic and extracurricular programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Knowledge of budget development and management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, WordPress, the Internet, and other relevant software.
- Ability to travel if necessary
- Ability to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
