The mission of VCU's Office of Medical Philanthropy and Alumni Relations (MPAR) is to maximize philanthropic support by engaging stakeholders with our institution working in partnership with the VCU School of Medicine, the Massey Cancer Center and the VCU Health System to implement best practices and efficient strategies to achieve a comprehensive development program.
MPAR is looking to hire twopart-time Development Assistants to provide project-based and general administrative support to a large, fast-paced fundraising and external relations team. The positions are well-suited for those with an interest/experience in nonprofit management, public administration, fundraising, development, communications, stewardship, special events and alumni relations.
In this role, you may:
-Provide general administrative support to the team including planning, coordinating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous projects
-Compose and manage correspondence
-Schedule and manage meetings and related logistics, develop agendas and assist with gift officer travel itineraries
-Pull, update and manage prospect and donor lists
-Complete data integrity projects and update and manage information contained in VCU's alumni and donor database
-Develop, update and maintain office process documentation
-Support and work in the office's project management software
Required qualifications:
-Detail-oriented, ability to work independently and to complete projects accurately and within deadline
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
-Strong writing and interpersonal communications skills
-Sound professional judgment and discretion, professionalism and a positive attitude
-Willingness to adhere to the university's policy on data access and confidentiality
-Exhibit a positive attitude, and show exemplary work ethic and professionalism
-Proficient with technology, specifically with the Zoom Meeting platform
-Proficient using Microsoft Office products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (email) and G-Suite and Google Drive
-Ability to maintain consistent work schedule and to adhere to the standards of professional conduct expected of the office
-Sound personal judgment, discretion and the ability to work with limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience
-1 year of administrative/project management experience in a professional office environment preferred
-1 year of demonstrated excellent customer service and multi-tasking skills
-Experience developing and writing professional communications as well as exceptional oral communications skills and phone etiquette
-Previous experience in a higher education environment or experience in a fundraising, marketing or external relations setting
These are wage positions and are not eligible for participation in the state's health benefits program, life insurance, employer-funded retirement, or cash match programs. The work-hour limit for hourly employees is 1,480 hours annually (365 consecutive days). Work hours include regular and overtime hours, student hours, and any other hours worked in a second job with VCU. Hybrid work is available with on-campus work hours required as determined by the supervisor.
