Description

The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment as Veterinary Clinical Pathologist in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences (BDS) at the College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville. This position is offered as clinical-track or tenure-track at the rank of assistant or associate professor, dependent on the individual's qualifications. Effort allocation will emphasize service but is negotiable, depending upon the candidate's interests.

The successful candidate will join a team of three other clinical pathologists in providing diagnostic service, veterinary student teaching, resident training, and scholarship. There is also opportunity to contribute to graduate student teaching through the Comparative and Experimental Medicine (CEM) graduate program.

The clinical pathology service has a diverse case load derived from the college's Veterinary Medical Center and area referring veterinary clinics; caseload includes both domestic and non-domestic species. The Clinical Pathology Laboratory includes six laboratory staff members and accessions approximately 26,000 specimens annually. The laboratory provides hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and cytology services, as well as interpretation of flow cytometric and protein electrophoresis data. The cytology caseload averages 3,300 accessions annually. In addition to clinical pathology, the BDS Department offers a full spectrum of diagnostic testing, including bacteriology/mycology, endocrinology, immunology, parasitology, pharmacology, virology, and anatomic pathology services (https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc/dls).

Teaching support and infrastructure include a Master Teacher Program offered through the College of Veterinary Medicine and various programs and resources offered through the university's Office of Information Technology's Instructional Support program. In addition, multiple faculty development programs and resources are available via the Office of the Provost.

Research support includes full access to well-equipped University core facilities offering a variety of laboratory techniques, and advanced computing and modeling expertise are available through the University, NIMBioS, and in conjunction with nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A research start-up package is available if applicable and would be commensurate with research effort allocation.
