Job Description

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking an exceptional candidate for our Owner's Engineer – NextGen MURR position. This position will report to the NextGen MURR Program Director and will be initially responsible for managing university-generated technical inputs in the programming, conceptual design, preliminary safety analysis report, and construction permit application phases of the NextGen MURR project.

The Owner's Engineer will support the Program Director in technical engagements with the prime contractor (reactor design firm) and prepare summary reports suitable for university executive review outlining the ongoing status of the project deliverables. The owners engineer may also be delegated signing authority on behalf of the Program Director or the University regarding canvassing university stakeholders and/or providing design input requested by the prime contractor, or in approving routine invoices, budgets or expenditures.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include
  • Primary university interface with the contractors' project management office
  • Translate technical needs and concepts from university SME's to contractor's technical team
  • Conduct independent project status evaluations from the university's perspective
  • Supports university legal and procurement with technical aspects of contract reviews or amendments
  • Monitor milestone deliverables and reactor construction progress in later phases
  • Monitor equipment selection and material compliance with specifications during the design phases
  • Support the Program Director in making decisions/approvals in design and planning reviews
  • Support the Program Director in developing equipment commissioning and verification tests
  • Lead the preparation of operational and maintenance strategy procedures
  • May be delegated as the University Technical Authority charged with sign-off of all reactor and ancillary facility deliverables

Shift

Monday through Friday 8AM - 5PM

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
  • Additional licensures are necessary as required by regulatory authorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in nuclear engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Project management skills and/or certification(s)
  • Training in reactor operation and/or nuclear health physics
  • Experience with Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations
  • Experience with nuclear science applications, reactor systems and fuels
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $90,000 to $140,000 per year

Grade: GGS-MKT
