Context of the Job:
The Kunjapur Lab in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware is currently comprised of 16 full-time members, mostly doctoral students, who are passionate about improving human and environmental health using synthetic biology. The lab does this by programming microbes to create or harness unnatural building blocks. The Laboratory Administrator will help ensure the efficient operation of research, training, and reporting activities that the Kunjapur Lab engages in.
Responsibilities:
- Purchase and stock the lab with general research supplies on a weekly basis as requested by the lab members.
- Perform the financial allocation in the university SAP system on a semi-monthly basis.
- Schedule and enforce lab cleanings, chemical inventory management, supply reorganization, or setup of new spaces as needed.
- Assist with room reservations and prepare meeting schedules.
- Schedule equipment maintenance as needed.
- Monitor instrument calendars for usage and ensuring appropriate maintenance is performed and documented by lab members.
- Maintain databases of relevant laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Execute an on-boarding checklist for new lab members a few times of year (typically January, June, September). Coordinate the scheduling and logistics of the annual Biomolecular Engineering Bootcamp, a three-week program held each January.
- Attend group meetings to learn the basics about our science and group culture.
- Request written technical updates from lab members on a quarterly basis.
- Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) prepare annual reports required by research sponsors.? Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED and four years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in administrative roles in academic or laboratory settings preferred.
- Strong organizational skills, including task/project management and scheduling.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and rapidly changing technical environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Familiar with operation of equipment found in biological engineering laboratories.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments, to analyze and solve problems, and to prioritize, plan, and organize work.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and use of web interfaces, with interest in and willingness to learn new software for research and communication.
- Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
