Position Summary

The Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinic is seeking to fill a full-time Medical Assistant or certified phlebotomist position. This role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist role will provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the services and convey a positive image. He/she may be assigned to specific medical specialty to help with patient care related to that specialty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Monitoring and assisting with daily schedules to enhance patient flow
    • Accompany patients to examination or treatment room
    • Interviewing patients
    • Measuring vital signs
    • Updating patient information and changes in medical history
    • Preparing patient for examination and/or treatment
    • Assisting patients with ambulation and transfers, specimen collection, venipunctures, administers medications/vaccines
    • Performing screenings per provider guidelines
    • Assisting providers with various procedures
    • Charting
    • Relaying instructions to patients/families
    • Manages office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages.
    • Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments.
    • Strong focus on phlebotomy and associated laboratory support
  • Fulfill clerical/administrative responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Sending/receiving patient medical records
    • Obtaining lab/imaging and other reports, hospital notes, processes prior authorizations, appeals, referral information, etc.
    • Completes forms/requisitions as needed
    • Schedules appointments
    • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics
    • Maintains patient chart
    • Completes and safeguards medical records
    • Completes diagnostic coding and procedure coding
  • Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Managing and maintaining clinical supply inventory
    • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol
    • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms
    • Maintaining infection control
    • Performing sterile instrument processing and maintains sterilizer and associated quality requirements
    • Maintains comprehensive records
    • Supports inventory management through ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms
  • Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established clinical procedures
    • Complying with legal regulations
    • Supporting a collaborative team environment; respects/promotes patient rights
    • Providing patient centered care
    • Responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations; keeping immediate supervisor(s) informed of problems relating to patients and/or staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated.

Required Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of medical assisting program with CMS or RMS certification OR completion of phlebotomy certification and associated experience.
  • Maintain BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual
