Certified Nursing Assistant
Northern Wisconsin Center (NWC), Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting to fill multiple Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) positions in Chippewa Falls.
NWC is a short-term assessment and treatment facility for individuals who have an intellectual disability as well as a mental illness and aggressive or challenging behaviors. The programming is designed to prepare people to live successfully in a community setting.
The NWC work schedule allows for every other weekend off.

Position Summary
A CNA at NWC provides personal care, training and modeling to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness in activities of daily living, socialization, leisure-time activities and motor skill development. The CNA provides appropriate assistance and supervision during workshop and leisure activities, and maintains a home-like and healthy environment. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, this position participates in the assessment of needs, planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation of individual programs. This position is required to work with residents who are served on an intensive treatment program (ITP) and are responsible for providing direct care to individuals who present increased or unusual behavior acuity and/or mental illness.
Salary Information
The starting pay is $20.37 per hour; on January 1, 2023 the salary will increase to $20.78. A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to those who do not have any prior state service in the last five years and must stay with NWC for a minimum of one year to retain the bonus. Bonus will be split, $1000 at hire and $1000 after completing probation. This position is in pay schedule/range 06/12 and a 12-month probationary period is required. Pay will be set in accordance with the compensation plan in effect at the time of appointment.
We offer a night differential of forty-five cents ($0.45) per hour for all night hours worked (i.e. work hours between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) and a weekend differential of sixty cents ($0.60) per hour for all weekend work hours (i.e. work hours on Saturday and Sunday). On January 1, 2023, both the night differential and weekend differential will increase to eighty cents ($0.80) per hour.
Job Details
All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by NWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 55 lbs, standing and walking on hard surfaces, kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs and twisting.
Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
- Must have and maintain a valid Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
- Must be willing and available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed including staying for the next shift (up to 15.5 hours total in one shift) or working additional shifts as assigned to maintain facility staffing requirements.
- Effective communication skills.
