Job Description
Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry.
Full-time position serving as a Blue Ridge Community College Career Services Specialist for enrolled and prospective students. Position will relate career information to postsecondary education, training, and employment. The specialist will complete career assessments, develop and implement career exploration opportunities, engage in employer relations, maintain online and on campus job boards, make classroom presentations, and plan and implement large scale career events on campus. Must work effectively with students, faculty, employers, and community members.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Candidate must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, business and industry, and the general public. Also, the applicant must have experience working in an advisory or counseling capacity, possess cultural competency, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment. Further, the candidate must show skills in the use of personal computers to input data, produce reports, manage records, track participants, maintain webpages, and provide services via online platforms as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field; experience in student or career counseling and administrative experience in student information systems such as PeopleSoft; community college systems, work force and career opportunities, and online employment platforms. Familiarity with O*Net and occupational handbook, and experience developing and implementing career exploration activities. Bilingual in English/Spanish and/or Arabic is also preferred.
